the trashcans tear through sxsw - march, 2004

tcs had a busy four days in austin, texas at the 2004 south by southwest music festival. having played two shows in london on march 12 and 14, the band then flew to los angeles for a march 16 session on kcrw's morning becomes eclectic show, and then a sold-out concert at the troubadour - the band's first show in california in over 10 years.

from there, the band moved on to austin from march 17-21 for a number of appearances and interviews in support of the upcoming weightlifting album. following are more details of the time spent at sxsw.

wednesday, march 17, 2004

the band (including roddy hart, who is playing keyboards and acoustic guitar) and their travelling crew (stage manager, sound engineer, business manager, merchandising team) arrive in austin from los angeles on wednesday night. after arriving at their hotel, most of them head out to 6th street for a night of acclimating themselves to sxsw.

thursday, march 18, 2004

this is a busy day, the band has 3 appearances scheduled. first, they're playing the day stage at the conference, then an acoustic in-store appearance at 33 degrees, and finally a midnight show at the vortex theatre as part of the scottish invasion after hour s party. the band also has to register for the conference/festival, pick up equipment they'll be using over the next few days and conduct a couple of interviews.

scottish invasion at the vortex theater

next up was the scottish invasion after-hours party at the vortex theater. thanks in large part to the support of the scottish arts council, a record number of scottish bands performed at sxsw 2004. the scottish invasion was an opportunity for a number of the bands and fans to celebrate this fact. $5 bought lucky fans admission to the party and a brand new plastic cup for the free kegs in the beer garden outside the theater. due to overtaxing the power supply, the bands had to play in near darkness, otherwise they were constantly blowing fuses. this doesn't make picture taking very easy. after a set the band has called their favorite of sxsw, they retired to the beer garden to chat with fans.

the trashcans' final appearance at sxsw was at the pop culture press party at the dog and duck. it was such a nice day i forgot to take pictures until it was nearly over.

and with that, the trashcan sinatras' participation in sxsw came to an end. thanks to everyone who came to see the band and thanks for the support. it was important for industry folks to see the support and enthusiasm of the band's fans during the festival.
