TRASHCAN SINATRAS: Weightlifting
(spinART Records)
Grade: applause
It's been eight years since Trashcan Sinatras last released an album - but in that time the band's music has defiantly lived on through other sweet and sensitive Scottish acts like Bell & Sebastian and Travis. After a uselessly noisy opener, "Welcome Back," the group's latest album quickly reaffirms its position as the ultimate source for sun-kissed pop. "All the Dark Horses" and "Freetime" build grand melodies out of furiously strummed acoustic guitars and soft voices, while the title track is a lovely lullaby. It's the kind of album that underlines just why the followers will never be as good as the original.
