The Trashcan Sinatras, a quintet from Glasgow, were always cult favorites, but no one wanted them to go the cult route -- that is, produce some monumental albums and then disappear.

After going bankrupt in the late '90s, however, that's what they did  -- they didn't record an album for eight years and made only rare concert appearances.

Certain bands, such as fellow Scots Belle & Sebastian and the Massachusetts-born Pernice Brothers, helped to fill the gap left by the group's absence, but now that the Sinatras are back, fans can have it all.

The guitar-pop band's comeback album, "Weightlifting," their first disc since 1996, is lovingly layered with tremendous harmonies.

The Trashcan Sinatras headline the Bowery Ballroom (6 Delancey St., at Bowery; [212] 533-2111.) Roddy Hart opens.
