1. Who is on the cover of the "Twisted and Bent" single?

the cover of twisted and bent features colin's hated ex-boss being caressed by the good fingers of colin's ex-girlfriend. of course, it ended in tears.

2. Who is on the cover of the "How Can I Apply...?" single?

now, the cover of how can i apply, the song that went some way to completing the treasured radio set (records played on bbc radios 1,2,3,4 and world service) for our genre-crossing idols, features this time a different elevation of colin's girlfriend. stay tuned for the next bunch of singles. i've had a sneak preview, and let me tell you boy.....

3. What is the picture on the cover of "Cake"?

cake's cover, if we remember correctly, was chosen by the dumb singer (no girlfriend available at that time), and is mere jim-jam. precisely, a slow exposure shot of an array of coloured lights which had entranced the poor drink-addled brain of frankie. thanks again to colin for technical guesswork.

4. Whose fingerprint is on the AHP CD? I've heard that it's Frank's.

while watching an episode of columbo in which robert wagner is tricked by our favourite shabby tec into supplying a thumbprint which is then used in evidence, we had yet another bad idea.... it is indeed frankie's fingerprint, "and i woulda gotten away with it if it wasn't for you pesky kids."

we're off for something to eat now and we will answer the rest of the questions later on this afternoon.

well, we're back after a lovely lunch which consisted of tomato and basil soup quenched by a half pint of heavy shandy (frank) and a half of lager shandy (george). ok, here come those answers. fasten your seatbelt.......unless of course you're planning a mad midnight dash through the streets of paris later on.

5. Why are TCS still at Shabby Road? Have they decided not to sell the studio or has the sale fallen through/been put on hold for the time being?

as is the nature of these things (those of you in the property profession will i'm sure back me up) the sale of shabby has been commandeered by those commissars of finance up in bonny glasgow. while john whoops it up in london and stephen speeds bonny boat over the sea to skye, our martyred heroes paul and frank brave the boredom of legal toing and froing. not that they grudge the douglas brothers their cheap sleazy kicks...

6. If/when TCS leave Shabby Road, where do they plan to move? London? Glasgow? Back with mom?

as soon as we drop the keys into the sweaty palm of our successor, we'll descend that famous stairway for the last time, and to tell you the truth, no-one as yet knows where we will end up. john is in london, hoping the others will come by, and that is as close to a plan as the others have. paul has a wee pal jody who wouldn't mind putting him up in his flat in killie. he lives above a pub. uh oh....frank is considering goosestepping his way into his sister's house in london to wait with john for paul to come down, but it's just as likely that he will take up the many burger-flipping job offers that well-intentioned tcs fans have offered him. stephen? well, stephen is anxious for the other three to get their act together. all in all though, the ultimate goal is to make another record together as soon as possible.

7. Are TCS recording more songs/reworking demos or taking a break?
8. Were demo tapes sent out to record labels? If so, to how many (or who) and have TCS heard anything from these labels?
9. How many demo songs were sent out? How many new songs are there overall?

throughout the summer, we concerned ourselves with writing and recording. mostly, a splendid time was had by all and the results were, to some ears, spectacular. to the ears of those in corporate command though, well, let's just say that the marketplace has as much room for the band's own special brand of idiosyncratic melancholy as it ever did. having said that, we only sent out 3 or 4 cassettes, so we've bought some more, sent stephen out to the post office for envelopes and stamps, and are currently chasing him about the office with a stick. that way our future is secured. we worked on 7 songs with varying degrees of interest; duty free, up in the air, weightlifting, trouble sleeping, untitled, untitled and untitled. unfortunately, the cassettes we bought only hold two songs and the cunts at the tape suppliers refused to exchange them, so weightlifting and trouble sleeping have been flying the trash can flag (not at half mast though). george, our perfectly-formed friend, has been fucking around with trouble sleeping (he calls it 'dub-mixing' ) - and intends to press up some vinyl copies to play at various 'psychout-club' events, of which he is ringmaster. to bring you right up to date, we're trying to write new songs. although the others are good. honest.

10. Were TCS ever able to obtain the rights to AHP?

although polygram wanted nothing to do with tcs, it seems that they are so fond of a happy pocket, that nothing short of a cheque for (more than we want to pay) would induce them to part with the rights.

11. Does TCS have an interest in obtaining the rights to the entire back catalog?

no, what's past is past, really.

12. Are TCS planning on playing any gigs anytime in the near future?

not at the moment folks. maybe soon, huh? we'd like nothing more.

13. Have there been any developments with Scotsfest in New York City? What do you think the chances are that TCS will participate?

it's really dependent on whether they would like us to do it. assuming there will be no bulldozing the boys into kilts with godless bribes of shortbread and whisky, and that we have our melodic house in order by the new year - when the shebang is set to take place - then we have no problem with the idea.

14. Are TCS willing to send over the artwork for the t-shirts Frank had mentioned a couple months ago?

the artwork i spoke to joe about featured the 'engaged' sign from the main attraction sleeve, and since you seem to have got something similar organised, not to mention the fact that we're far from 'engaged' at this time.......what i'm trying to say is - i let it go, alright? i'm sorry. regardless, the artwork is still there on disk if you want it.

15. Do TCS have any need for us to make CDs out of the current demos?

aahh....i see what you mean. it's a very kind gesture, but we'll stick with our horse-drawn methods.

16. Are there any projects TCS would like the list to undertake?

not at this time. but let us say once again - thank you all.

17. Is there any other news?

well the hot news at the moment in the trashcans camp is, of course, frank's amazing pool playing, no one can believe how hot this boy is on the felt. also, paul has been jamming along with local space-cadets the wizards. so if you detect a slight psychedelic space feel to any new songs it's paul's fault. as usual.

18. Is there anything you can think of that you need the list to help with?

it's rather like the wizard of oz. someone needs a girlfriend, someone needs a drink, someone needs a doctor, another needs a home. but we all need understanding, and our good friends on the list help there. if, however, you can lead us to the emerald city regarding those individual concerns, then all the better. safe to say though, everyone is helping enough.

19. Do you still need information about record distributors in the US or is this only if you're able to obtain the rights to AHP?

no ta.

from francis, paul, john, stephen. also george and colin.

with love.
