san juan capistrano show

Postby admin » Mon Jul 20, 2009 1:53 am

from what i'm hearing from people there, it sounds like it's a great one. the band sounds great, with a new album of songs, only 4 rehearsals and a new bass player!

here is the set list so far:

i wish you'd met her
easy on the eye
send for henny
in the music
prisons
astronomy
got carried away
i hung my harp upon the willows
people
easy read
all the dark horses
should i pray?
i've seen everything
oranges and apples
morning star
weightlifting
the engine

how can i apply...?
the safecracker
earlies
i was on the brink of writing something really, really great when my pen ran out of...

I just came on to post the list. Thanks! The show was fantastic! The new album sounds incredible live. It has made me fall in love with it in a whole new way. It was indeed magical! This is going to be their best tour without a doubt. See everyone at the troubadore!

realizing that the probability of me attending the Troubador date was slim, i decided last minute to haul a** down the 5. got there late, but can say that yeah, the band sounded amazing.

after 19 years, i finally was able to see the Trashcans play live. i'm hoping by some miracle i can catch you guys here in LA. good luck with the rest of the tour.

Great! Sounds like the warm-up for the proper tour (aye, Glasgow) has started well. Nice contemporary set list too. It's always good to hear new Trashcan's material live. They must be saving 'I Can't Stand Tomorrow' for later...

Wow, glad to see the setlist. Looking forward to hearing it live. I have to say I'm a bit surprised that nothing from 'Cake' made the cut. Perhaps a song or two will sneak in down the road. 'I wish You'd Met Her' is a great choice for an opener.

Surprised, but delighted to see that some of my faves from ITM made the cut, eg:

Prisons
Astronomy
Morning Star
Oh, yeah! And I REALLY hope "I Can't Stand Tomorrow" gets an airing or two! It's gorgeous all together!

Yay!! This is going to be an amazing tour! I can just feel it!!

all I can say is wow! my wife and I attended the show last night. Last time i saw the TCS was in 1991 at UCSD for the Cake tour. The songs from the new record sounded absolutely amazing live. I think they played the whole record. It was an amazing show. The band sounded incredible.

Fabulous show, they seemed very excited to finally be playing for an audience. Frank looked like he harked back to the 90’s with short hair and black-rimmed glasses which he never took off. (And yet nothing off Cake!) Stephen played without shoes! ‘People’ was his shining moment. And Stevie, who wore a name tag that read ‘Wonder Stevie’, kept having to borrow a bottle opener from a waitress for the boys. Great opener with 'I wish you'd met her' and I was excited to hear 'Astronomy'. I think they could have ended the night with a livelier song though. I agree with Krypto, after hearing the new album live, I’ve fallen in love with it in a new way. Thanks for posting the setlist, Joe.

Wonderful show last night. I briefly spoke to Frank before the show and they were nervous about playing their first concert in two years but it didn't show onstage. John seemed very warmed by the welcome the guys received from the audience. Lot's of smiles and "ahhhs" throughout the room. I was surprised there was nothing from "Cake"as well. And I agree they could've used a more uptempo song or two towards the end, but all in all ....it was great.

Great show last night! What a treat to see the greatest band in such an intimate setting. That was an impressive performance, especially given only a few rehearsals. Wow! I'm really enjoying the new CD and think "Easy on the Eye" has single potential. It's a brilliant, catchy and 3 minutes long. Best of luck guys. See you again soon.

I wanted to add that during "Prisons", Frank went into a few bars of "My Sweet Lord" that sounded just lovely!

If I'm not mistaken I believe Frank played guitar on every song, first time I recall seeing that. And yes the bars of "My Sweet Lord" were beautiful.

can't wait for the Troubadour!

Admin, any comments from the guys about the show?

Sounds like it was a great opening night. To my ears that is a great encore. Safecracker & Earlies are two of my favourite TCS songs. Hope the rest of the tour continues to go well.
